PM insists on presenting budget amidst UNP protests

“Our election manifesto and budget are interrelated and we need to show the people about our commitments,”
Prime Minister and ruling party presidential candidate Mahinda Rajapaksa says the government will present this year's budget proposals to Parliament despite protest by the UNP.
He said the UNP fears to face the progressive budget proposals and added that the government would go forward with their original schedule for the budget.
“Our election manifesto and budget are interrelated and we need to show the people about our commitments,” Premier Rajapaksa said.
He added that the UNP leader is going to meeting the President to stop the budget in Parliament but pointed out that the Cabinet of Ministers had decided to present the budget in Parliament one month ago.
“Country should move forward despite all the political activities including the elections,” the Prime Minister said.
