    PM promises a new free trade zone for Trinco
    [Oct. 27, 2005]

    Prime Minister and UPFA Presidential hopeful Mahinda Rajapaksa has promised a modern free trade zone for Trincomalee district and assured urgent development project for Trincomalee harbor.

    “I will transform this traditional and historical town to a key economic hub in Sri Lanka,” Premier said at his first election rally in Trincomalee.

    He also said that he will take steps to construct a Colombo-Trincomalee 'Express Highway', the Baticaloa-Trincomalee link road and the Paanama-Tangalle 'Express Highway' for which work had already commenced. "I will create a strong bond of fellowship between the north and south", he said.

    Mahinda's Vision for the Country:
    CHANGE Sri Lanka to be a Modern State whilst Fostering the National Heritage and Culture with Peaceful Co-existence among the Communities of Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims and others, instilling Economic Growth and Prosperity; and Maintaining Friendly Relationship with all Nations.
